For decades, two women grew up on opposite sides of the Netherlands, completely unaware that they shared the same biological parents. Both had been adopted as infants from orphanages in India by different Dutch families, growing up in loving homes while quietly holding onto the inevitable questions about their origins.
Like many international adoptees, both women carried a quiet curiosity about their roots in India. Paperwork from intercountry adoptions in past decades could often be fragmented, vague, or incomplete, leaving little to trace back to specific families or locations.
For years, their individual journeys to discover more about their backgrounds remained personal endeavors. Eventually, driven by a desire to unlock their genetic heritage, both decided to take commercial DNA ancestry tests—a simple cheek swab that would fundamentally alter their lives.
