Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms won Georgia’s gubernatorial election, snapping a 28-year Republican control of the executive office and making history as the first Black woman ever elected governor in the United States.
Bottoms overcame aggressive GOP campaigns targeting her mayoral record on public safety and city management to defeat Republican nominee Burt Jones.
In her victory speech, Bottoms declared the result a historic breakthrough for representation and a clear mandate to invest in public education, healthcare, and economic opportunity across Georgia.
