Rep. Wesley Hunt, a two-term congressman from Texas, announced his run for the U.S. Senate, challenging Sen. John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes Republican primary.
Hunt’s entry defies GOP leadership, which has warned his candidacy could divide resources and jeopardize Senate control.
The time is NOW.

Hunt, an Army veteran and West Point graduate, said voters want an alternative to Cornyn, whose strained ties with President Donald Trump have drawn conservative skepticism, and to Paxton, who faces lingering legal and personal controversies.

Senate GOP leaders John Thune and Tim Scott have criticized Hunt’s campaign as a “vanity project,” while Hunt argues it’s about offering Texans a “viable alternative.”
Despite leadership opposition, Hunt remains a staunch Trump ally, having campaigned extensively for the president and delivered a prime-time speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention.
