Amazon said Wednesday it will cut another 16,000 jobs, just three months after eliminating 14,000 positions as part of a broader efficiency drive. The latest reductions highlight a growing trend among large corporations to trim payrolls in stages rather than through a single overhaul.
The cuts affect teams that had not completed internal reorganizations during the previous round of layoffs, according to Beth Galetti, Amazon’s senior vice president of People Experience and Technology.

Companies across the tech sector have cited artificial intelligence gains, post-pandemic overhiring, and inflation pressures as reasons for leaner staffing.
Galetti said Amazon will continue hiring in strategic areas despite the layoffs, stressing that the company remains in an early growth phase with significant long-term opportunities.
