The European Parliament has approved legislation to implement a major EU-US trade deal, easing months of uncertainty triggered by President Donald Trump’s tariff threats. According to the report, lawmakers backed the deal with a strong majority but added strict safeguards to ensure Washington complies.
The agreement sets tariffs at 15% on most EU exports to the US, lower than the previously threatened 30%, in exchange for increased European investment and removal of EU duties on US industrial goods.

The report said the Parliament inserted clauses allowing the EU to suspend the deal if the US raises tariffs or threatens EU sovereignty.
Lawmakers also introduced conditions requiring the US to uphold tariff limits before EU concessions take effect. According to officials, exemptions on steel and aluminium-linked goods remain a sticking point.
European Commission officials described the vote as a key step but warned they would closely monitor US actions. The deal still requires approval from all 27 EU member states, with a final decision expected in the coming months.
