Whitaker: Trump Makes NATO Stronger, Europe Pays The Bill

U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker

Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker praised President Donald Trump on Tuesday for ushering in what he called a “golden age of NATO,” highlighting a new defense arrangement that shifts the burden of European security funding to NATO allies.

Speaking to Newsmax, Whitaker said the agreement announced Monday in the Oval Office marks a turning point. Under the deal, the U.S. will supply weapons to Ukraine, funded by NATO member states.

“This is really an extraordinary moment,” Whitaker said. “The American taxpayer is no longer going to bear the burden of the Ukraine war.”

Trump’s strategy, he added, leverages U.S. defense manufacturing while incentivizing European nations to purchase American arms. A Patriot missile system will be sent to Kyiv under the new framework.

Whitaker also noted Trump’s frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to negotiate and praised the administration’s efforts to establish conditions for peace through strength.
