Mexican social media influencer Cesar Gastelum was shot and killed while livestreaming outside a fast food restaurant in Culiacán, according to the report.

Gastelum, who had nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok, was attacked on Tuesday in a city that has experienced persistent violence linked to organised crime.

The report said two individuals wearing helmets approached the influencer on a motorcycle during the livestream.

Video reviewed by Reuters reportedly showed the passenger opening fire before the attackers fled the scene. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the killing.

According to the report, the shooting occurred against the backdrop of ongoing conflict between rival criminal groups competing for influence in Sinaloa, where Culiacán has remained a focal point of violence.
