China has removed six senior military officials, former financial regulator Li Yunze and recently investigated Politburo member Ma Xingrui from their positions in the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislative body.

State media announced the dismissals on Friday, though no official explanation was provided.

The removals represent the latest development in President Xi Jinping's long-running anti-corruption campaign, which has resulted in the investigation, dismissal and prosecution of numerous senior Communist Party officials and military leaders over the past several years.

Among those stripped of their lawmaker status is General Xu Xueqiang, head of the Equipment Development Department under the Central Military Commission and commander-in-chief of China's Manned Space Programme since 2022.

💡
Other military officials removed include General Li Fengbiao, General Guo Puxiao, Wang Kangping, Zhang Minghua and Yin Hongxing, all of whom held senior positions within the People's Liberation Army.

Neither China's Ministry of National Defense nor other government agencies immediately commented on the dismissals.

The latest actions are expected to reinforce Xi's continued efforts to tighten political discipline and consolidate control over both the military and key state institutions.
