Xi Congratulates Kim, Reaffirms Beijing’s Commitment To Pyongyang

Chinese President Xi Jinping said China hopes to open a “new chapter” in relations with North Korea after leader Kim Jong-un secured another term as head of the ruling party.

In a congratulatory message released by Chinese state media, Xi said Kim’s reselection as general secretary of the Workers’ Party of North Korea reflected strong domestic support.

Xi pledged to work closely with Pyongyang to strengthen bilateral ties and advance socialist development in both countries.

Xi described China and North Korea as “friendly socialist neighbors” and said maintaining close relations remains a core policy of Beijing. He also voiced support for North Korea’s efforts to boost economic growth and improve living conditions.

Kim, who has led the country since 2011, told the party congress that economic development remains a top priority. Russia also sent a message backing Pyongyang, highlighting growing coordination among Beijing, Pyongyang, and Moscow amid tensions with the West.
