New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has appointed an all-female transition team, signaling a progressive start to his administration. The five-member group will be co-chaired by former FTC Chair Lina Khan, Maria Torres-Springer, Grace Bonilla, Melanie Hartzog, and Elana Leopold.

Khan, known for her aggressive antitrust stance during the Biden administration, reflects Mamdani’s intent to challenge corporate power and advance economic reforms, including higher taxes on the wealthy to address New York’s cost-of-living crisis.

Mamdani said his administration will draw on “organizers, policy experts, and working people” to shape city policy.

He also called for grassroots donations to fund his transition, emphasizing independence from corporate influence.

Asked about President Donald Trump’s criticism labeling him a “communist,” Mamdani said he is willing to work with the White House on issues that benefit New Yorkers. He takes office on January 1, 2026.
