Around 1,700 passengers remain onboard the cruise ship Ambition in southwest France after dozens of people reportedly developed symptoms linked to a possible acute stomach illness, according to CNN.
The ship had departed from Belfast and Liverpool earlier this month for a scheduled cruise around France and Spain. Health officials in Gironde said nearly 50 passengers showed symptoms consistent with gastroenteritis.

According to the report, affected passengers were examined by medical staff and isolated in their cabins as a precaution. French authorities also suspended passenger disembarkation in Bordeaux while medical tests are conducted.
Reuters, citing French media, reported that one passenger has died, though officials have not publicly linked the death to the illness outbreak.
Regional health authorities stressed there is no evidence connecting the situation aboard Ambition to the separate hantavirus outbreak linked to another cruise ship, Hondius.
Cruise operator Ambassador Cruise Line said enhanced sanitation and prevention measures were immediately introduced across the vessel.
