A U.S. Army battalion at Fort Stewart, Georgia, is offering soldiers a four-day pass to play Grand Theft Auto VI as an incentive to reenlist.

Members of the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion who sign reenlistment contracts between August 1 and November 14, 2026, are eligible for the unusual benefit.

According to the report, the incentive was created to help the battalion meet its fiscal year 2027 reenlistment targets and was proposed by a new career counselor. The official memorandum states that the four-day pass is specifically timed to coincide with the game's release.

Twenty of the 130 eligible soldiers have already selected the incentive, according to the battalion. While the program is currently limited to the unit, Army officials indicated similar approaches could potentially be adopted elsewhere.

The initiative reflects the military's efforts to find creative ways to retain personnel as it continues to face challenges with recruitment, retention and morale.
