Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel to New York and Canada later this month in a diplomatic push aimed at improving ties with Washington and Ottawa while preparing for a potential state visit by President Xi Jinping to the United States.
China’s foreign ministry said Wang will chair a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on May 26 before traveling to Canada from May 28 to 30 for talks with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand.
The visit follows last week’s summit between President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping in Beijing, where both leaders discussed stabilizing relations and a possible Xi visit to Washington in September.

According to Chinese officials, Wang will lead discussions focused on defending multilateralism and strengthening the UN-centered international system. Beijing has increasingly presented itself as a supporter of global institutions and a multipolar world order.
The report said Wang will also meet UN Secretary-General António Guterres and attend talks on global governance before continuing efforts to improve Canada-China relations after years of diplomatic tensions.
