Former President Joe Biden is facing a difficult legal battle to prevent the release of audio recordings from conversations with his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, according to a CNN report.
The recordings, made in 2016 and 2017, could soon be provided to the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee unless courts intervene.
According to court filings, the Justice Department under President Donald Trump has shifted its position and now supports releasing the materials.
Judge Dabney Friedrich ruled that Biden’s privacy concerns were reduced because much of the content relates to foreign policy discussions and topics already addressed in his published memoir.
Conservatives argue the recordings may shed light on Biden’s mental sharpness and handling of classified information. Special Counsel Robert Hur previously cited memory lapses during related investigations but ultimately declined to pursue criminal charges, the report noted.
