President Donald Trump has named Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), as acting director of national intelligence following the resignation of Tulsi Gabbard, according to reports from the Associated Press.
Trump announced the appointment on Truth Social, praising Pulte’s experience overseeing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and managing trillions of dollars in housing-related assets. The president said Pulte would continue serving in his current positions while temporarily leading the intelligence community.

According to the report, Gabbard stepped down last month after disclosing her husband’s cancer diagnosis. If Trump later nominates Pulte for the role on a permanent basis, the appointment would require Senate confirmation.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday tapped Bill Pulte, who leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to serve as acting director of national intelligence, putting the expansive U.S. intelligence community in the hands of a loyalist who has targeted the president’s foes.

The report noted that Pulte’s background is primarily in housing finance and mortgage market oversight. He has also emerged as a vocal supporter of Trump’s policies, frequently criticizing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over interest rate decisions.
However, according to CNBC, Pulte does not have prior intelligence or national security experience. The appointment marks an unexpected personnel move within the Trump administration.
