A British passenger has claimed to survive the Air India plane crash that killed more than 240 people in Ahmedabad, India, on Thursday.
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, said the aircraft crashed just seconds after takeoff. Speaking from a hospital bed, Ramesh described a loud noise followed by chaos. “There were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran,” he told Hindustan Times. He sustained injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet and still had his boarding pass when rescued.

The Gatwick-bound flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian, according to Air India. Authorities had initially reported no survivors.
President Donald Trump called the crash “one of the worst in aviation history,” offering U.S. assistance. He suggested a possible engine failure but said the cause remains unclear.
The crash is under investigation.
