The Democratic Republic of Congo has reported a further rise in confirmed Ebola infections, with the total number of cases reaching 1,155, including 304 deaths, according to the latest government situation report released on Thursday.

The figures reflect confirmed infections recorded through Wednesday and highlight the continued spread of the virus.

Health authorities said 37 new cases and five additional deaths were recorded during the previous 24-hour reporting period. Officials attributed the increase partly to intensified epidemiological surveillance and expanded laboratory testing, which have enabled earlier detection of infections across affected communities.

Despite improved monitoring, the report indicated that community transmission continues to increase on a week-to-week basis, underscoring the ongoing challenge of containing the outbreak.

Public health teams are continuing contact tracing, patient isolation and community awareness campaigns to slow the spread of the virus.
