President Miguel Díaz-Canel confirmed that Cuban officials recently held talks with representatives from the United States as the island faces a severe economic and energy crisis. According to reporting by CNN, the discussions come amid growing pressure from the administration of Donald Trump.

Díaz-Canel said the talks were led by him along with former Cuban leader Raúl Castro and senior members of the Communist Party. He said the discussions were aimed at identifying unresolved disputes between the two nations and exploring possible solutions.

The Cuban leader also blamed a U.S. energy blockade for worsening shortages on the island. According to the report, Cuba has received no fuel shipments for three months, worsening blackouts and disrupting key services.

Trump has previously said Washington was already holding talks with Cuban officials. Havana’s confirmation marks the first public acknowledgment from the Cuban government.
