Disney has sued the Trump administration’s Federal Communications Commission, accusing the agency of using its regulatory authority to pressure ABC over its programming, according to CNN.

The lawsuit argues that FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s actions violate Disney’s First Amendment rights. The FCC is investigating ABC’s “The View” and has ordered early renewal proceedings for eight Disney-owned ABC station licenses, an unusual move given that such licenses are typically renewed every eight years.

Disney alleges the pressure campaign is politically motivated and says it has affected programming decisions. The company claims “The View” has become more cautious about booking political candidates and has avoided airing certain clips that could trigger additional FCC scrutiny.

Carr has defended his actions, including investigations involving ABC’s diversity policies and equal-time rules. Conservative supporters argue the FCC has legitimate regulatory concerns.

Disney is seeking a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to block the license proceedings. The FCC had not immediately responded to CNN’s request for comment.
