European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has indicated she could leave her post before her term ends in October 2027, while also signaling she may play a role in France's presidential election, reported by CNBC.
In an interview with French newspaper Les Echos, Lagarde said an early departure was "possible" and acknowledged she is considering how she might contribute to France's political debate.
However, Lagarde said her immediate priority remains maintaining price stability at the ECB during a period of economic uncertainty. The report said the ECB declined to comment on her latest remarks.
Lagarde's comments come as France prepares for a closely watched presidential race, with political divisions deepening and the government struggling to pass budget reforms aimed at reducing public debt and meeting EU fiscal targets.
