Europe Battles Extreme Heat As France Suffers Blackout

According to Meteo France, the country recorded its hottest day ever on a national scale, with temperatures reaching 44.3 degrees Celsius in southwestern France. Several cities also registered unprecedented readings.

A record-breaking heat wave sweeping across Europe has triggered major disruptions, including a large power outage in western France, according to officials. The outage left around 68,000 homes without electricity after a heat-related incident affected a transformer in Finistere, the report said.

Authorities prioritized restoring power to hospitals, nursing homes and other critical facilities, while backup generators were deployed where necessary. Reuters reported that extreme temperatures also reduced France’s nuclear power output as access to cooling water became more limited.
