Leonard Glenn Francis, widely known as "Fat Leonard," is preparing to ask President Donald Trump to pardon him or commute the remainder of his prison sentence in connection with the U.S. Navy bribery scandal.

According to The Washington Post, Francis said he is seeking clemency because he has Stage 4 kidney cancer and fears he may not survive until his scheduled release in 2030.

The report said Francis and his legal team plan to argue that prosecutors under the Biden administration committed serious misconduct during the investigation, claiming those actions unfairly affected his case.

According to the report, the White House said it was not aware of any formal clemency request but noted that President Trump has final authority over pardon decisions.

Francis also recounted his 2022 escape from federal supervision before he was later recaptured and returned to U.S. custody.
