The U.S. Supreme Court has handed President Donald Trump a major immigration victory by ruling that the Department of Homeland Security has broad authority to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS), according to CNN.

The 6-3 decision immediately affects about 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians whose work permits and deportation protections are set to expire. The ruling could also impact hundreds of thousands of migrants from 11 other countries as the Trump administration moves to end TPS designations.

The report said legal challenges to those revocations are now likely to be dismissed, allowing the administration to advance its immigration agenda. DHS said the ruling provides additional tools to secure the nation's borders.

Immigration attorneys urged TPS holders to seek alternative legal pathways immediately. Business groups warned the decision could worsen labor shortages in industries such as healthcare, hospitality and construction.

According to estimates cited by CNN, Haitian TPS holders alone contribute nearly $5.9 billion annually to the U.S. economy while paying roughly $1.6 billion in taxes.
