According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures could reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40.5 degrees Celsius), with the potential to break daily and monthly records. Officials warned that the extreme heat increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially among vulnerable populations.

The report said soaring demand for air conditioning has pushed wholesale electricity prices sharply higher, with prices jumping more than 243% in New England and 101% in New York City.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged residents to conserve electricity by reducing air conditioner use and limiting energy consumption.

Transportation agencies also warned of disruptions. Amtrak, New Jersey Transit, and Delta Air Lines issued heat-related advisories, while Illinois officials cautioned motorists about possible road damage caused by extreme temperatures.
