Iran’s football federation has accused the United States of revoking its allocation of World Cup tickets for supporters, creating fresh controversy ahead of the 2026 tournament.
The federation said FIFA regulations grant participating nations a ticket allocation equal to 8% of stadium capacity for supporter distribution. FFIRI claimed it had already begun selling tickets and that some fans had made travel arrangements before the allocation was withdrawn.
The report said the dispute comes amid broader tensions between Washington and Tehran. Iranian officials have also complained that some members of the national team’s support staff were denied U.S. visas. In response to the diplomatic climate, Iran relocated its World Cup training base from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico.
Neither FIFA nor U.S. organizers had publicly responded to the allegations.
