President Donald Trump on Monday took aim at Japan over its refusal to import American rice, calling it an example of how U.S. trading partners have grown “spoiled.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “To show people how spoiled countries have become with respect to the United States of America, and I have great respect for Japan, they won’t take our rice, and yet they have a massive rice shortage.”

Despite the criticism, Trump emphasized the long-standing economic ties between the two nations. “We’ll just be sending them a letter, and we love having them as a trading partner for many years to come,” he added.
Trump’s remarks come amid renewed White House efforts to renegotiate trade terms with key U.S. allies.
