Eli Lilly has agreed to acquire psychedelic drug developer AtaiBeckley for $2.8 billion in cash, strengthening its push into experimental mental health treatments, the company announced.
According to the announcement, Lilly will gain access to BPL-003, a DMT-based nasal spray currently in Phase 3 clinical trials for treatment-resistant depression.
The deal values AtaiBeckley at $6.75 per share, a 26% premium over its previous closing price. Lilly could pay up to $1 billion more if specified regulatory and development milestones are achieved.
The report said the acquisition reflects growing interest in psychedelic therapies, an area the Trump administration has supported for treating depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The deal also continues Lilly's aggressive acquisition strategy, with more than $10 billion already committed to purchases this year.
