President Donald Trump said Wednesday the United States is "hopefully" nearing the end of its nearly seven-month war with Iran, even as fighting escalates between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Trump told reporters in North Carolina that Tehran "wants to make a deal" and confirmed he had spoken with Iranian officials directly.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also hopes to meet Trump, the report said.
The conflict has hit oil markets hard. Saudi Arabia shut its East-West pipeline after a drone attack, though oil prices dipped Thursday after Riyadh arranged alternate shipments through Oman.
Analysts warned the war could drag into 2028 if Iran continues resisting diplomacy after the midterms.
