The Senate has passed President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending bill after more than 24 hours of intense negotiations and a marathon vote-a-rama.
Vice President J.D. Vance cast the tie-breaking vote early Wednesday after the chamber split evenly, with all Democrats and three Republicans — Thom Tillis (N.C.), Rand Paul (Ky.), and Susan Collins (Maine) — voting against the bill.

The legislation, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” by Trump, includes broad tax cuts, increased military spending, and provisions to eliminate taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security for seniors.
Despite internal GOP dissent over the bill’s $3.3 trillion deficit impact, the White House celebrated the outcome as a major legislative victory.
Trump had pressured lawmakers to pass the bill before July 4, calling it a patriotic milestone. With Senate approval secured, the bill now returns to the House for final passage following amendments made during the Senate’s lengthy deliberations.
