For Republicans, America hasn’t felt this united in years. In August 2025, the TIPP Unity Index, the only national measure of Americans’ sense of unity, reached a record 40.8, up from 27.3 a year ago. From February through August, the index averaged 38.0 compared to 29.6 during the same months in 2024 under President Biden. The surge was almost entirely powered by Republicans, whose sense of unity nearly doubled. Supporters may see this as a reflection of renewed confidence in the country’s direction under the new administration. Democrats slipped, independents edged up, and the political divide grew sharper even as overall sentiment rose.
