President Donald Trump announced plans to reinstate a U.S. naval blockade targeting Iranian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz following the collapse of recent peace negotiations with Tehran.

According to the report, the proposed blockade would apply to vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports, while commercial traffic from other nations would continue to have access to the strategic waterway.

The report said Trump also proposed a 20 percent "protection fee" on eligible cargo transiting the strait, arguing that the United States should be compensated for providing maritime security in one of the world's busiest shipping corridors.

According to the report, the announcement follows renewed military tensions, including an Iranian drone attack on a commercial vessel shortly after technical talks between U.S. and Iranian officials.

The proposal is expected to intensify legal and diplomatic disputes, as the United States and its allies maintain that international navigation should remain unrestricted, while Iran continues to assert authority over transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
