Trump Cheers CBS Decision to Cancel The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

The Late Show host Stephen Colbert

President Donald Trump on Thursday mocked CBS’s decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, claiming credit for the comedian’s downfall and hinting others could follow.

“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next... Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined.”

The cancellation, which ends The Late Show’s 33-year run this May, came days after Colbert criticized CBS parent company Paramount for settling a $16 million lawsuit with Trump. The lawsuit alleged CBS News deceptively edited an interview with then-candidate Kamala Harris.

Colbert slammed the deal on air, calling it “a big fat bribe” amid Paramount’s ongoing bid for FCC approval of its $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media.

Trump’s attacks reflect his long-running feud with late-night comedians, many of whom have sharply criticized him during his presidency.
