President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying the pair would be “unbeatable” if they joined forces in the 2028 presidential election.
The remarks add to growing speculation about who could emerge as the Republican Party’s standard-bearer after Trump’s current term.
Both Vance and Rubio are widely viewed as leading contenders for the Republican nomination and have become prominent defenders of the administration’s policies.

The two officials frequently appear at White House briefings and public events, where they address issues ranging from domestic policy to foreign affairs, including the conflict involving Iran.
Rubio has recently drawn positive reviews from Republicans and some Democrats for his public communication skills, including a widely noted appearance in which he used a 1990s hip-hop reference while discussing negotiations with Iran.
Although no candidates have formally entered the 2028 race, political maneuvering is already underway within both parties.
Trump’s endorsement of Vance and Rubio is likely to intensify attention on the Republican field as potential successors begin positioning themselves for the next presidential contest.
