Trump Pushes Back On AI Regulation, Warns Move Could Help China

President Donald Trump rejected calls for additional artificial intelligence regulation Monday while criticizing Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei over his push for a slower approach to AI development.

Trump argued that the existing federal regulatory and criminal powers are sufficient to address potential problems involving AI companies. In a Truth Social post, he said effective oversight depends on strong presidential leadership.

He stressed that maintaining America’s lead in AI is strategically important, arguing that the country that wins the AI race will gain a major advantage.

His comments followed warnings from Amodei, who has urged greater caution as AI systems become more capable. Trump did not endorse additional safeguards, instead defending his administration’s approach and warning critics against actions he believes could undermine U.S. competitiveness.
