Trump Pushes For Extended Strait Of Hormuz Blockade

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has directed aides to prepare for a prolonged blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The move signals a preference for sustained economic pressure on Iran over either resuming full-scale conflict or abandoning ceasefire talks.

During a meeting on Monday, Trump reportedly argued that maintaining the blockade posed fewer risks than escalating the war or stepping away from negotiations.

Separately, speaking at a state dinner with King Charles III, Trump said US military operations in the Middle East were progressing well and reiterated his stance against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.

According to Reuters, Iran’s ceasefire proposal delays nuclear discussions until after the war ends and maritime disputes are resolved. US officials rejected this sequencing, insisting nuclear issues must be addressed early, highlighting a key sticking point in ongoing negotiations.
