President Donald Trump has called on the Senate to pass the Clarity Act, urging lawmakers to dedicate the cryptocurrency legislation to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham.
According to the report, Trump made the appeal after Graham's death over the weekend, describing the bill as an important step toward establishing a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets.
The report said the Senate Banking Committee approved the legislation in May withsupport from the White House and major cryptocurrency companies, including Coinbase, Circle, and Ripple, which have argued that the industry needs greater regulatory certainty.
According to the report, banking groups oppose the measure, warning it could divert deposits away from traditional financial institutions.
The report added that Graham's death and Sen. Mitch McConnell's illness have narrowed the Senate Republican voting margin, potentially complicating the bill's path to passage.
