Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse, which was stolen while she dined at a Washington, D.C., restaurant on Easter Sunday. The bag reportedly contained $3,000 in cash, keys, a passport, driver’s license, and her homeland security badge. One suspect was arrested Saturday without incident following a joint investigation by the Secret Service and D.C. police.
Officials say the suspect is a serial offender and may be involved in broader criminal activity, including credit card and device fraud. The Secret Service confirmed the theft posed no threat to Noem’s safety or her role, in a statement. The case remains under federal jurisdiction and will be presented to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C. The cash, officials said, was intended for family gifts and Easter celebrations.
