U.S. And Iran Agree To Two-Week Ceasefire

Iran and the United States have agreed to a conditional two-week ceasefire, during which shipping traffic will be allowed through the Strait of Hormuz.

This comes more than a month after the U.S. and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran, and hours after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran did not reopen the Strait.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been mediating negotiations, said early on Wednesday that the ceasefire was effective immediately.

Airline Fuel Crisis Here To Stay For Some Time

Even if a ceasefire in the Iran war holds and the Strait of Hormuz reopens, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) warns that it will take months for jet fuel supplies, and therefore costs, to recover.

Airlines and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have warned that jet fuel shortages could last months, even if Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz, due to disruption to the refining capacity of the Middle East.

Fuel, which accounts for about 27% of an airline’s costs, has surged after the Strait’s closure disrupted global supplies.

Although a ceasefire and possible reopening have lowered oil prices, jet fuel is expected to remain relatively expensive for some time.

SpaceX IPO Aims To Raise $75 Billion

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is valued at over $2 trillion ahead of its scheduled IPO in June, when the rocket maker aims to raise $75 billion, with up to 30% of the shares reserved for smaller retail investors.

SpaceX and xAI, which develops the Large Language Model Grok and took over X Corp (formerly Twitter) in 2025, merged in February 2026 when it was valued at $1.25 trillion. SpaceX also includes the satellite internet business, Starlink, which accounts for 50-80% of revenue.

The IPO is designed to raise cash for the development of orbital AI data centers, which could, in theory, give access to near-constant solar power, potentially solving the AI energy bottleneck, which is proving so critical in the race for AI dominance. SpaceX has already sought approval for one million satellite data centers. However, the technology is unproven, manual upgrades and repairs would be hugely expensive, and the constant radiation exposure could render the project unfeasible.

SpaceX had revenue of $15-16 billion in 2025, with profits of $8 billion. In contrast, xAI (including X) had a turnover of $3.8bn and is reportedly burning through $1bn each month.

X, the social media platform, is a bit player in online advertising, earning just $2.26 billion compared to over $30 billion for Meta and TikTok.
