Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, D.C., to discuss Ukraine’s urgent defense needs and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

In a series of posts on X, Yermak said the two leaders discussed the battlefield situation and emphasized the immediate need for stronger U.S. support for Ukraine’s air defense systems.
The conversation also covered the Istanbul negotiations with Russian officials, the status of an upcoming prisoner exchange, and efforts to repatriate Ukrainian hostages and abducted children.
Yermak reiterated Ukraine’s willingness to reach a ceasefire, blaming Russia for continued aggression. “Ukraine has done everything possible to achieve peace,” he wrote. “That is why additional sanctions are necessary.”
He noted that he and Rubio “agreed to coordinate our next steps,” signaling continued diplomatic alignment between Kyiv and Washington as the war enters a new phase.
