With the U.S. withdrawal from the UN agency due to take effect in January, the WHO is facing a budget deficit of $2.5bn in 2025-27 – even after making cuts of $1.1bn to next year's budget.

In response to the U.S. withdrawal, the WHO has reduced its budget request for 2026-27, from $5.3 billion to $4.2 billion, but has revealed that less than $1.1 billion of this amount is considered to be secure, primarily the assessed contributions determined by national GDP.
