President Donald Trump has announced plans to nominate Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to serve permanently as the nation’s top law enforcement official, according to statements made by the president and reported by multiple outlets.
If confirmed by the Senate, Blanche would formally lead the Department of Justice after serving in the role on an interim basis since April, when Trump removed former Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Blanche, a longtime Trump ally and former personal attorney, represented the president in several high-profile legal cases, including investigations related to classified documents and the 2020 election.

Those cases were later dropped following Trump’s return to office, in line with longstanding Justice Department policy regarding sitting presidents.
The nomination comes after Blanche oversaw the Justice Department’s abandoned “anti-weaponisation fund,” a proposed $1.8 billion compensation program for individuals claiming government misconduct. The plan faced bipartisan opposition and was halted following legal challenges.
According to the report, Trump recently praised Blanche’s performance at the Justice Department and expressed confidence that Senate confirmation could proceed quickly.
