Top Senate Democrats are seeking answers from several businesses linked to President Donald Trump over whether they are covered by a Justice Department settlement that limits future IRS action on certain tax matters, reported by CBS News.

According to the report, Senators Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer and Ron Wyden sent letters to 11 companies connected to Trump and his family, arguing that the agreement raises significant questions about its scope.

The settlement, signed in May by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, bars the IRS from pursuing claims related to tax returns filed before the agreement and references affiliated companies, subsidiaries and related entities.

The senators also wrote separately to the Trump Organization and Trump Media, asking whether they believe the settlement shields them from future audits or federal penalties tied to earlier tax filings.

The Justice Department said such releases are standard practice in resolving taxpayer disputes but did not clarify which companies, if any, are covered by the settlement.
