Vice President JD Vance has released a new memoir titled Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, offering a personal account of his spiritual journey from Protestant Christianity to atheism and ultimately to Catholicism.
Published by HarperCollins, the book arrives a decade after Vance's bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, helped establish him as a prominent voice in American politics.
According to the memoir, Vance drifted away from Christianity during his military service, embracing atheism and drawing intellectual inspiration from the writings of philosopher Ayn Rand.
He writes that his perspective began to change after encountering successful individuals who openly embraced religious belief, including technology investor Peter Thiel, whose faith challenged assumptions Vance held about religion and intellectual life.
He reflects on his experiences in Washington and the changing dynamics within the Republican Party as part of his broader discussion of belief, identity, and public service.
The memoir's publication has generated attention beyond its religious themes because of Vance's prominent role in national politics.
As one of the country's highest-ranking elected officials, his account provides insight into the personal convictions that have influenced his worldview, political philosophy, and rise from bestselling author to vice president.
