Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a more open and inclusive approach to artificial intelligence, warning against creating "new historical injustices" as AI adoption accelerates worldwide, reported by the South China Morning Post.
Speaking at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Xi urged countries to strengthen AI safety while opposing the excessive use of national security concerns to restrict technology development.
Xi announced that China will provide 5,000 AI training and seminar programmes over the next five years and establish AI cooperation centres with regional organizations including ASEAN, BRICS, the African Union and the Arab League.
The report said Beijing also unveiled an action plan to expand cross-border data flows, promote open-source AI and improve global AI governance.
Xi's remarks came amid intensifying U.S.-China technology rivalry, shortly after President Donald Trump accused Beijing of interfering in U.S. elections during a televised address.
