Bosch has begun sample production at its first semiconductor manufacturing facility in the United States, marking a significant step in the company's effort to expand domestic chip production.
According to the report, the German automotive supplier finalized a $225 million funding agreement with the U.S. Commerce Department to support the California plant, which will manufacture silicon carbide semiconductors.
The report said Bosch acquired the Roseville, California, facility in 2023 and invested about $2 billion to modernize it.
Commercial production is expected to begin later this year as the company seeks to strengthen North American semiconductor supply chains.
Company executives said the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement and the need for resilient domestic supply chains were key factors behind the expansion.
The Commerce Department's support comes through the CHIPS and Science Act, which aims to boost U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and reduce dependence on overseas suppliers.
