California officials have filed an emergency motion in federal court to stop President Donald Trump from using the state’s National Guard to enforce federal laws, including immigration raids in Los Angeles, CNN reported Monday.
The motion seeks to block their use in domestic law enforcement but allows for protecting federal buildings and personnel.

Attorney General Rob Bonta wrote that the presence of troops has caused “real and irreparable damage” to Los Angeles and must be stopped. The lawsuit also names Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as a defendant.
U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer, a Clinton appointee in San Francisco, is reviewing the request but has yet to issue a ruling.
Governor Gavin Newsom posted on X, calling the deployments “illegal” and urging the courts to intervene.
