President Donald Trump has accused California Democrats of attempting to influence the outcome of the state’s closely watched primary elections, alleging without presenting evidence that irregularities are occurring during the vote-counting process.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that a federal investigation is underway into delays in ballot tabulation and said the matter is being examined by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.
However, according to the report, federal prosecutors have not confirmed the existence of such an investigation and have declined to comment on the president’s assertion.
Trump focused much of his criticism on California’s mail-in voting system, questioning why vote counting continues for days after Election Day.
Election officials maintain that the timeline is consistent with state law, which requires ballots postmarked by Election Day to be counted if they arrive within the permitted seven-day window.
The controversy comes as several high-profile races remain undecided under California’s jungle primary system.
With only a little more than half of expected ballots counted, candidates in the governor’s race and the Los Angeles mayoral contest continue to await final results, keeping attention focused on the ongoing tabulation process.
