A federal judge has rejected the Justice Department's attempt to obtain the names and contact information of Fulton County election workers involved in the 2020 election.

According to the report, the request followed an FBI search of the county's election facility in January that resulted in the seizure of ballot boxes as part of an ongoing investigation.

The report said Justice Department attorney William McComb argued the subpoena was a routine investigative step.

Fulton County attorney Kamal Ghali opposed the request, contending that disclosing the information could discourage election workers from participating in future elections.

Judge William Ray ruled that the subpoena was overly broad and not reasonably tied to the needs of the investigation.

According to the report, he found the disclosure request unnecessarily burdensome and ordered the subpoena to be quashed. Fulton County also argued the request risked targeting and intimidating election workers connected to the 2020 election.
