Finland Set To Host New NATO Battle Group

Finland is on track to become the ninth country to host a NATO multinational battle group after ministers supported the move in Brussels on Friday.

According to a Finnish government statement, the decision includes setting up a command unit for land forces.

Finland’s Minister of Defense, Antti Hakkanen, said the Finnish NATO command will have as a task to direct land warfare operations in northern Europe and in Scandinavia.

He declined to reveal the exact location of the command or how many NATO troops would be placed in Finland, saying detailed planning was still ongoing, according to Reuters.
