A 2-year-old girl died after being left inside a hot vehicle while in the care of a babysitter in Hallandale Beach, Florida, according to the report.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred on July 5 during dangerously high temperatures that reached around 90 degrees, with the heat index approaching 100 degrees.

The report said the tragedy is the second fatal hot car incident in Broward County within a week, following the death of another toddler in nearby Plantation on June 29.

Hallandale Beach Police Chief Michel Michel urged parents and caregivers to adopt simple safety habits, such as checking the back seat before locking a vehicle and placing a personal item in the rear seat as a reminder.

According to Kids and Car Safety, children's bodies heat up three to five times faster than adults, making hot vehicles especially dangerous.

The organization identified the incident as Florida's fourth hot car fatality this year.
